Betty White’s Carmel Retreat Sells and L.A. Home Goes On the Market

Beloved “Golden Girls” star Betty White, who died last year at the age of 99, left behind an impressive real estate legacy.

Her vacation retreat in Carmel, CA, just sold for $10,775,000, almost $3 million over the asking price.

And now, her longtime Brentwood estate goes on the market for a hefty $10,575,000.

Let’s peek inside both of these homes.

White and her husband, game-show host Allen Ludden, purchased the oceanfront lot in the 1970s for $170,000 and built a custom home, which was completed in 1981. Sadly, Ludden died before the two could spend time there together.

The midcentury modern design features an open floor plan, walls of glass, beamed ceilings, terraces, and architectural elements reflecting the natural setting of the home.

The three-story beach house measures 3,600 square feet and has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The grounds include gardens and a gated path to a sandy beach.

This gorgeous getaway was isted in March for $7,950,000, and it even became the most popular listing on Realtor.com®.

Nicole Truszkowski and Zak Freedman of Sotheby’s International Realty–Carmel Brokerage represented the listing and also brought the buyer.

Brentwood beauty

Now, White’s longtime Los Angeles abode has come on the market.

She and her husband purchased the picturesque property in 1968 because it was “close enough to the various studios where she worked while still providing privacy,” a spokesman for White’s estate told the Wall Street Journal.

Built in 1952, the home was the primary residence for the couple. It has been “lovingly cared for” and offers views of the Getty Museum and mountains. It’s available for the first time in over 50 years.

Spanning 3,029 square feet, the home has five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The gated property is set back from the street, and the grounds include flower-filled gardens, old-growth trees, a pool, and pool house.

No interior shots of the home are available, and the listing states that no access inside the home will be granted, not even during showings.

The property is being sold for “land value,” the listing notes. “This is a unique opportunity to build your dream home on a flat lot in a serene, country setting.”

Marlene Okulick of Sotheby’s International Realty–Pacific Palisades Brokerage holds the listing.

White starred in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Golden Girls,” and “Hot in Cleveland,” as well as the 2009 rom-com “The Proposal.” She was a guest host on “Saturday Night Live” in 2010, which earned her one of her eight Emmys.
