Wallace Cunningham-Designed Crescent House in Encinitas

Three years ago, the Wallace Cunningham-designed Razor House in La Jolla, CA, made waves with a record-setting sale of $20.8 million, to buyers Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz.

Now, another of Cunningham’s oceanfront designs is ready to amaze modern-minded buyers.

Located in the San Diego County coastal community of Encinitas, the magnificent mansion has surfaced with a record-setting $23.5 million price tag. The current owners had purchased it in 2016 for $11.1 million.

Costly on the coast

Market forces have led to steep price hikes in Encinitas, which has 90 active listings on Realtor.com® and a median list price of $1,744,500.

This mansion was built in 2003 on an oceanfront street, on one of the neighborhood’s larger lots. It comes with 74 feet of ocean frontage.

The property could not be duplicated today due to the limits of the current building codes, according to listing agents Kelly Howard and Lisa Waltman, of Compass.

The residence itself is shaped like a crescent moon, wrapping around a similarly curved infinity pool. Known as Crescent House, the concrete, glass, and titanium structure took three years to build.

The dramatic dwelling was featured in Season 3 of “Westworld,” selected for its futuristic look.

During their tenure, the homeowners invited Cunningham back to the site to bring some outdoor fire elements to the ocean-facing exterior. Otherwise, the home, with its angular and geometric look, remains unchanged—and that’s by design.

“This is the kind of home that is timeless,” says Waltman. “Like any other piece of art, it’s not intended to be changed. It’s intended to stand the test of time.”

Inside the tiered design and curved walls, there’s a central courtyard showcasing the sublime infinity pool.

Exterior walls shield the property from views of other homes, while maximizing the water vistas.

“When you’re in the home, it’s like being on an island,” says Waltman.

Luxury living

The oasis offers 6,329 square feet of luxury indoor-outdoor living. The artful space features a main house with the primary suite and two more bedrooms, all with amazing views. The living room includes a stunning fireplace, and the dining area opens to a deck.

Flexible bonus areas on the property could serve as a gym, media room, or office space. The patios, verandas, and terraces make the most of outdoor living.

“When you enter, you’re on the elevation that’s over the ocean. It feels like you’re floating over the ocean,” says listing agent Howard.

The listing is set to hit the market on May 14.
